You’re at your desk having just finished lunch when your phone pings. Your BFF has marked her latest post with MUST SEE, and after watching it, she’s got you fully in agreement. You know exactly which co-worker has to see it too.
Now you’re back at your desk, ready to dive right back into work, but your client’s file has disappeared! Thus begins an I-had-to-be-there-5-minutes-ago-and-WHERE-ARE-MY-CAR-KEYS?? kind of search. Finally, you hit gold in the waste paper basket. You take a deep breath, will yourself to focus, and turn to your computer screen. Sheesh. It’s 4:50. Again.
All too familiar? Check out these 3 life-changing tips that will help keep you focused and organized at work, and most importantly — move the needle.

Get rid of clutter
You want to keep your desk completely clear of anything you don’t use on a daily basis. The less things around, the less opportunity for distraction. Honestly, there is no reason to have last year’s business convention itinerary taking up that prime spot on your desk. Today, do yourself a favor and spend 10 minutes picking up every object on your desk. Determine if it’s an item that’s used daily or not. If it’s not, time to FIND IT ANOTHER HOME. Pronto.
Keep your go-to items in a strategic place
Those things that ‘when you need it, you need it now’ you’re gonna want to keep super handy. But the secret is not in them being easy to take out, they need a real good return policy (think Amazon, not Ali) so you can be sure it will be there the next time you need it. If you’re the interior designer that consults with your color swatch in between every few clicks – a little piece of velcro to stick it down to your workspace and you’re never looking for it again. Or say you are a customer service rep. Your headset, which keeps coming on and off, how about installing a handy hook right across from you? It can lodge there while not in use and is ready to be picked right up as soon as a call comes in.
Set up a station for your phone
One stop game-changer. (link for aro box) This is where all those group chats and Instagram reels meet their match. Habit formation starts with a visual cue. The Aro box is a visual cue to take a break from your phone. It’s a beautiful charging station that kind of serves as a day care center for your phone. The app also provides you with live analysis of your phone use, and rewards you for time spent away. To say you’ll double your productivity would be a gross understatement.
Here’s hoping you realize what gems these tips are, and take the time to implement at least one today. And one tomorrow. My favorite is the second, because so many people recognize the importance of keeping important items in a place that’s easy to reach but often don’t realize how vital it is to make them easy to return.
